Our 2026 Reading Challenge. Fingers Crossed

Like marathon training, every year starts with big intentions and questionable confidence. A new challenge season arrives, sneakers untied. What kind of reader are you? A spreadsheet person chasing a number? A vibes reader hoping to shake things up? A prompt follower who just wants someone else to decide? The internet has turned reading into a competitive sport, and frankly, we are intrigued.

To celebrate the launch of our podcast and the arrival of 2026, we are starting a reading challenge. Fingers crossed all three of us finish it. Optimism is part of the tradition. Twelve prompts. One year. All inspired by books we will be talking about in 2026.

Here’s the lineup of super specific prompts that just might* come from our podcast reads:

  • A book with an unreliable narrator who definitely saw a murder. She insists.

  • A book featuring a women’s group that enjoys shooting guns. Casually.

  • A book where retirees treat murder like a weekly hobby.

  • A book where memories are centralized. Emotions included.

  • A book where the woman is older, the boyfriend is famous, and the internet has thoughts

  • A book where a woman lives in an attic room. Red flags included.

  • A book where survival is a gameshow and capitalism is the villain.

  • A book about Shakespeare without making you read Shakespeare.

  • A book about a prince and the president’s son. No further explanation needed

  • A book where Leonardo da Vinci left clues and chaos followed.

  • A book where civilization collapses but culture refuses to.

  • A book about estranged friends on vacation who should probably talk.

For our personal goals, we did what everyone does and picked numbers that felt responsible in the moment.

  • Michelle is aiming for 12 books outside of podcast reads. Calm. Reasonable.

  • Katya chose 50 books, powered by ambition and vibes.

  • Laura said 100 books, fully aware this is a personality trait and not a plan.

Join us, ignore us, or aggressively customize it. As with all reading challenges, the real goal is reading something. Finishing is a bonus.
